Larval collection records of Culex species (Diptera: Culicidae) with an emphasis on Japanese encephalitis vectors in rice fields in Sukabumi, West Java, Indonesia
Japanese encephalitis (JE) presents a threat to much of Asia and may have originated in the Indo-malay region of Southeast Asia. JE has been isolated from several genera of mosquitoes, but across Asia the most important species in disease transmission to humans is Culex tritaeniorhynchus Giles. Due to a malaria outbreak in 2003, a large-scale mosquito larval distribution study was carried out in Sukabumi District, West Java. Mosquito larvae found in sampled habitats were collected and reared to adults for identification.
